What Clarity collects, why it is needed, and what stays under your control.

Last updated 20 October 2026

Draft for review This page is waiting for final approval and may change before Clarity Admissions launches.

The short version

  • Your practice stays with you. Your history, feedback and recordings live on your own phone or in your own browser, not on our servers.
  • Your voice is used to run the interview and write your feedback, and nothing else. It is never kept on our servers and no one at Clarity listens.
  • An account is optional and holds very little: your email, an account id, a link to your Apple ID if you use Sign in with Apple, and your plan.
  • Card details go to Stripe or Apple, never to us.
  • No ads, no tracking, no selling. We never sell data, and we never use it for advertising.
  • You can delete your account in the app at any time (You, then Delete account), and it goes straight away.

Who we are

Clarity Admissions is a trading name of Joey Quansah, 10 Oak Road, Oldbury B68 0BE. We (“we”, “us”) make Clarity, the interview-practice app for medicine, dentistry and Oxford and Cambridge, on iPhone and on the web at app.clarityadmissions.co.uk, and we run clarityadmissions.co.uk.

We are the controller of the personal data described here. This policy explains, in plain English, what happens to your information when you use Clarity, pay for it, or someone pays for it on your behalf.

Questions or requests about your data: theclaritysupport@gmail.com.

Your voice and transcripts

Your voice is turned into text in real time, so the interviewer can respond and the feedback can be written. Nothing you say is kept on our servers, and no one at Clarity ever listens. The specialist AI services we use are set never to store it or train on it. Your history, feedback and recordings live only on your own phone or in your own browser, and you can delete them whenever you like. We never sell data, and we never use it for advertising.

In more detail:

  • Your microphone is used only when you start a speaking exercise or a live interview. You can turn microphone access off at any time in your phone’s or browser’s settings, but speaking exercises will not work without it.
  • Live interviews. As you talk, your speech is streamed to our speech recognition and AI model providers. They turn it into text, write the interviewer’s next question and speak it in the interviewer’s voice. Each request asks them not to use what you say to train their models, and the AI model requests go only to providers that neither store nor train on them.
  • Feedback. After an interview, or when you practise a case or a lesson out loud, the transcript (the text, not the audio) is sent to an AI model provider to write your feedback, such as the points you made and missed.
  • Practice recordings. A finished practice recording is sent through our server to a speech recognition provider to produce a transcript with word timings. Our server does not keep the audio once the transcript comes back.
  • What our servers keep. No audio and no transcripts. Our logs record only the type of event (for example, that a call started), timings and error categories, never what was said.
  • What stays with you. On iPhone, your history, scores and feedback stay on the phone, and a copy of your own recordings is kept on the phone for up to 30 days so you can replay them, then deleted automatically. On the web, your history and transcripts are kept in your browser, and recordings stay in the browser tab until you close it.

Interviews are practice scenarios. Please do not share sensitive personal information in them, such as health or financial details, passwords, or other people’s private information.

Your personal statement or CV

Adding your personal statement or CV is optional. On iPhone the file is read on the phone, the temporary copy is deleted straight away, and only the text is kept, on your phone. When you start a session that uses it, the text is sent with that session so the interviewer can ask about what you wrote, and the same goes for any of your own examples you choose to practise. It is never stored on our servers.

Your account

On iPhone an account is optional; on the web you need one to practise. An account also lets you use your plan on more than one device and receive a plan a parent pays for. If you make one, our accounts database holds:

  • your email address, and an account id we create
  • a link to your Apple ID, if you use Sign in with Apple
  • your plan: which plan it is, where it was bought (the web or the App Store), when it renews or ends, and the Stripe customer and subscription references that go with a web purchase
  • sign-in sessions, so you stay signed in (they last up to 90 days)
  • if you send a parent a payment link, the first name you typed for it

Signing in with your email

When you sign in with your email, we send you a six-digit sign-in code by email through our email delivery provider. We store only a scrambled (hashed) form of the code. It expires after 10 minutes and stops working after a few wrong tries.

Sign in with Apple

If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple tells us a unique id for your Apple ID and an email address. If you choose Hide My Email, Apple gives us a private relay address that forwards to you, and we never see your real address. When you delete your account, we also ask Apple to remove Clarity’s access to your Apple ID.

Payments

On the web, payments are taken by Stripe. Stripe collects your card details and billing email directly, and we never see your full card number. Stripe acts under its own privacy policy for payment processing and fraud prevention. On iPhone, purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store, and we never see your card details.

On iPhone, a subscription and paywall service handles purchases inside the app. It receives an anonymous app user id, your purchase and subscription status, and events such as when the subscription screen is shown and whether a purchase completes, so the app can unlock and restore paid access. It also receives three onboarding answers chosen from fixed lists: how you heard about Clarity, what you are preparing for and, for Oxford and Cambridge, your subject. We use these to see which channels and interviews bring people who find Clarity useful.

When a parent pays

A student can send a parent, or anyone they choose, a payment link from the web app. The person who pays enters their own email and card details with Stripe, so the parent’s email and payment details are held by Stripe, as the paying customer. We see the payment and keep a reference to it so the plan can be attached to the right account, but the account belongs to the student. The student never sees the parent’s card details, and the parent does not get access to the student’s practice. The link page shows only the student’s first name and the plan. Links stop working after 14 days, or once the account has a plan.

The Mentors waitlist

If you join the waitlist for Clarity + Mentors, we store your email address and the date you joined. We use it only to tell you when Mentors opens. It is not used for advertising or sold, and it is not linked to an account. To have it removed sooner, contact us as below.

Fair use and keeping Clarity secure

To apply fair-use limits, our server keeps a count of the time you have used each day and month in live interviews and transcription. The count is linked to your account id (web plans) or your App Store purchase id (iPhone), and holds only usage numbers, never what you said. It is kept after you delete your account, so that a new account cannot reset the limit. Our hosting provider uses your connection’s IP address briefly to slow down abusive bursts of requests; we do not store it.

No ads or tracking

Clarity has no ads and no third-party advertising tools. We do not sell or share your data for advertising, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

Who helps us run Clarity

We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf, only to provide the service and under contracts that require them to protect it:

  • speech recognition and AI model providers, for live interviews, transcripts and feedback
  • a cloud hosting provider, for our servers, the accounts database and this website
  • an email delivery provider, to send sign-in codes
  • Stripe, for web payments, and Apple, for App Store purchases and Sign in with Apple
  • a subscription and paywall service, for purchases in the iPhone app

You can ask us for the names of these providers at any time. Some of them process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on the protections UK data protection law recognises, such as the UK’s adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.

Why we use your data

UK data protection law asks us to give a lawful basis for each use:

  • To provide Clarity (live interviews, feedback, your account, sign-in and your plan): this is necessary for our contract with you.
  • To keep Clarity secure and fair (rate limits, fair-use counts, abuse prevention) and to understand which channels bring people (the three onboarding answers): our legitimate interests, which we have balanced against yours.
  • The Mentors waitlist: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Payment and tax records: our legal obligations.

How long we keep it

  • Your account (email, account id, Apple link, plan, sessions and payment-link details): until you delete your account, apart from the fair-use count below. Sessions end after 90 days, or sooner when you sign out.
  • Sign-in codes: stored only in hashed form and useless after 10 minutes. They are kept until you ask for a new code or delete your account.
  • Audio and transcripts: never kept on our servers. What is on your phone or in your browser stays there until you delete it.
  • The Mentors waitlist: until we have told you Mentors is open, or until you ask us to remove it.
  • Fair-use counts: usage numbers only, linked to your account id or App Store purchase id. They are kept after you delete your account, so that a new account cannot reset the limit.
  • Payment records: Stripe and Apple keep records of payments for as long as the law requires. We keep the records we need for tax and accounting, which UK law requires us to keep for several years.

Deleting your account

In the app, go to You, then Delete account. Deletion is immediate. It removes your account, signs you out everywhere and cancels a plan bought on the web straight away. On the web it also erases the practice in that browser. On iPhone, the practice on your phone stays until you erase it (You, then Erase everything on this phone) or delete the app.

If a parent paid for your plan, their subscription is cancelled when you delete your account, and their own Stripe record stays with Stripe. If you subscribe through the App Store, deleting your account does not cancel that subscription: cancel it in your iPhone’s Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions.

Under-18s and parents

Many people who use Clarity are 16 or 17. Clarity is not for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you are under 18, your account and your practice data are yours, even if a parent or guardian pays for your plan.

A parent or guardian who wants an account deleted can ask the student to delete it (You, then Delete account), or contact us from the address used to pay, or with the student’s account email, and we will help. We may ask for details to confirm the request is genuine before deleting, so that no one can delete someone else’s account. If you believe a child under 13 has used Clarity, contact us and we will delete what we hold.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, to ask for it in a portable form, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. Most of your data is on your own device, so we may hold little or nothing that identifies you, but we will always tell you what we have. We will reply within one month.

To make a request: theclaritysupport@gmail.com.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. We will tell you about important changes in the app or by email before they take effect.
